A couple weeks ago I had a cough that seemed to last forever. I had an irritated throat long before and after it had run its course on other family members. Part of it may have been that I was pregnant and probably not eating as well as I should. It’s just so hard to get down all those good veggies and vitamins in sometimes. That’s why I’m a huge fan of smoothies! And this recipe I found is killer. It’s packed full of immune boosting ingredients including fresh carrot juice and ginger. The result is a beautiful orange color with a delicious combination of healthy flavors.

We’ve partnered with Zarbees and their 99% Honey Cough Soothers for this post. Keep reading for the recipe and a few other tips to soothe that irritated throat from members of our Say Yes team…
You can find the full recipe here, but first here’s a review of all the goodness in these ingredients: bananas packed with potassium and digestive help, pineapple with a truck load of vitamin-C and antioxidants, tumeric for anti-inflammatory benefits and rich in antioxidants, lemon for a boost of vitamin-C and a natural antibiotic, fresh carrot juice with vitamin-A and a free radical fighter.

Step 1 is making the fresh carrot juice which you don’t need a juicer for! Simply add 2 cups of carrots and 1 cup of water to a blender. Then strain out the pulp with a thin cloth or small strainer as we used above.

Step 2 is throwing in the other ingredients into the blender: 1 banana, 1 cup of fresh pineapple, 1 T of ginger, 1/2 tsp of tumeric, 1/2 cup of the prepared fresh carrot juice, 1/2 a lemon, 1/2 cup of almond milk.
Blend and serve immediately. Serves 2.
Here are a few more ideas from members of our Say Yes team. Any cough soothing tips you’ve got?
1. Elevate yourself when you sleep. Add a few extra pillows and try to sleep a little more elevated to help everything drain.
2. A vapor rub down. Rub vapor rub on your chest as well as on your feet. Cover your feet with socks to help the vapor soak in all night/day
3. Humidifier. Put one in the room where you are sleeping. I also like to take a hot steamy shower in the morning or at night to help clear everything out.
4. Stay hydrated!
