It’s last call for stone fruit at the farmer’s market! Last week I visited my local cheese shop and asked for a few recommendations for the best summer fruit + cheese pairings. Here’s what we came up with…
Whenever I take the time to buy cheese at my local cheese shop down the street, I never regret it. The owner is so helpful and knowledgeable, directing me to the best options for whatever event we’re shopping for. He’s also excellent at recommending flavor pairings. Sometimes I can get great service at Whole Foods or other gourmet stores as well, but the cheese shop is next level quality and service.
Last week I walked in with my bags of fruit from the farmer’s market and he helped me come up with some really amazing fruit and cheese combinations to try alongside almonds.
Here are some of our favorite cheese + fruit pairings, I’d love to hear your favorites as well!
Pears + Brie. Such a classic combination for an impressive entertaining cheese plate. Even better with some honeycomb or local honey drizzled on top (or both!)
Stone Fruit + Washed Rind Cheese. Grab the last of those peaches, nectarines, plums, apricots, pluots, etc. The juicier the fruit the better! For the cheese you want something super soft (brie could work as well). Really, any stinky soft cheese will work but here’s the scoop on washed rind cheese if you’re interested.
Fig and Blue Cheese. Figs are delicious right now, and we love them sliced over a cracker and crumbly blue cheese. Are you a blue cheese fan? I used to dislike it but I’ve really grown to appreciate it now especially with something sweet to compliment it.
Apples + Sharp Cheddar. This is my favorite late night snack. I almost always have a block of Vermont’s Cabot Cheddar in the fridge to eat with a crunchy, sweet apple like a fuji or jazz variety. It’s also great in a salad together too. Apple season is starting now and I’m sooo excited about it!
