We’re working with The Home Depot on another home project! This time we’re tackling the outdated laundry room. We’ve got wallpaper from the 50s, old paint, disintegrating linoleum, and old appliances. Here’s an overview of our plan…

Ever since buying our home two years ago we’ve had a laundry list (ha!) of home projects we’ve wanted to tackle here. We’ve already done a lot of work. Our white kitchen, renovating the bathroom downstairs, my Say Yes home studio, giving our upstairs bathroom upstairs a facelift, removing carpet + refinishing the hardwood floors in the master bedroom and the girls room (final reveal here!).
One more thing on our list has been giving our laundry room a bit of a makeover. The wallpaper is from the 50s, and linoleum is falling apart (and the brown color isn’t my favorite), the appliances are outdated, and everything needed a fresh coat of paint. Also, it’s attached to my Say Yes home studio which is bright white and updated, so it really needed to be less of an eye sore!
Excited to work with The Home Depot again on this project. You might remember when we worked with them just a couple months ago on the hardwood floor project. It’s our go-to spot for any home projects, honestly we’re probably there at least once a week! I’m always amazed at what they offer. From paint, raw materials, appliances, plants, tools, storage, fixtures, and tool rentals, and so much more.
They also have an amazing decor line (mostly online). We’ve redecorated both the girls room and the studio from their line and have really loved discovering new things there. Excited to share the final laundry room with you in a couple weeks, also decorated with their decor line!
Here’s what we were thinking for tackling this project:
1. Old wallpaper gone. At first we thought we would be able to just strip it off and paint, but the whole wall actually needed to be completely replaced since it was made with particle board and needed real dry wall and insulation to keep in the heat. So that ended up being a much bigger project.
2. Linoleum replaced. The brown flooring really needed to go. Some parts were chipping off and becoming unsafe to walk on.
3. Updated washer and dryer. We’ve had some problems with them before, and thought it was time for brand new machines here.
4. Removing one of the unused cabinets to make room for laundry baskets.
5. A fresh coat of paint on the walls and cabinets.
6. New hardware pulls on the cabinets.
7. Building new shelving above the dryer and basket area.
