My friend Melissa Bahen of Lulu The Baker just came out with a new book called Scandinavian Gatherings. It’s filled to the brim with so many great projects and recipes, and it’s really giving me the travel bug! I’ve never been to Scandinavia and I’m really itching to go one day. She was kind enough to let me share this hot almond-citrus punch recipe with you today. Doesn’t it seem like the perfect holiday drink for a crowd? Here’s how to make it…
TANTE KARI’S HOT ALMOND-CITRUS PUNCH
MAKES ABOUT 51⁄2 QUARTS
15 cups of water
6 cups of bottled orange juice (not concentrate)
3 cups of sugar
3/4 cups of freshly squeezed lemon juice (about 3 medium lemons)
4 teaspoons of almond extract
2 teaspoons of vanilla extract
Orange slices, for garnish
1. In a large pot over medium heat, mix all the ingredients except the orange slices. Heat the punch until steaming. Serve hot, and garnish with the orange slices.
VARIATION : Add 1⁄2 shot of dark spiced rum to 1 cup of hot punch for an extra kick.
