A Half Up Hair Trick

Photos and directions by beauty contributors Molly and Joanna of Irrelephant

This hairstyle is simple, chic, and not too fussy. Which is perfect because I never have much more than a minute to do my hair in the morning (with a new baby, I’m lucky for even that).  Best of all, our beauty contributors are sharing a brilliant hack for making this gorgeous clip so you can take this simple ‘do up a notch for a night out…

DIRECTIONS:
1. The hair texture we started with is simple. Start with hair that was blow-dried hair without a round brush at least a day before. I threw in a little oil on the ends and went to bed at night with it loosely braided.

2. Tease the crown to help hide your part (mine was trying to part towards the back from oil build up). It also helps to add decent volume. Spray hairspray and pin a section.

3. Take a side section as thick or thin as you’d like (we prefer thicker so the twist is more noticeable). Begin to lightly twist going towards your head. This will help keep in pesky bang hair that wants to fall out. Spray with more hairspray as you’re loosely twisting. Then take a backcomb and tease the section slightly to add some grit and texture. Pin across first section.

4. Repeat on the other side. Pin over the previous section.

5. You can either continue twisting and pinning over previous sections until it’s all up or stop at a half up half down point.

6. Here’s the fun trick! Take any metal cuff or bracelet from your jewelry drawer (ours is a Trading Hopes Nora cuff bracelet) and gently open it a bit to fit as a hair piece. We pinned it down once on each side. As you can see on the photo, we tucked the ends inside the hair so it looks like it’s wrapped around the hair. Such an elegant result, don’t you think?
