I love easy shortcuts for pretty treats, like the whipped topping marshmallows or mini apple dumplings. Recently I stumbled upon this simple way to make the classic Valentines Day treat, petit fours. Instead of hours slaving over a cake and cutting it into cylinder shape, try making them from dipped marshmallows instead!
I’m a big fan of using Airheads candy to decorate instead of fondant or icing (remember the mitten cookies and pendant banner?) and so I partnered with them to decorate my cute marshmallow petit fours in Airheads-made letters, hearts, roses, polka dots, stripes, and bows. They’ve collected lots of great ideas to use Airheads on their pinterest page right here for you to check out.
Also, they taste really good and are super impressive looking to give as a gift to your sugar lovin Valentine.
Keep reading to see how to make them yourself. I promise, they’re really super simple!

Step 1: Start with a pack of marshmallows and a block of white chocolate. I’ve found that callebaut is the best for melting. Chop into pretty fine pieces for quick melting.
Step 2: Melt the chocolate over a double boiler until smooth. Pour into a cup. Tint with food dye if you’d like.
Step 3: Using a skewer, dip the marshmallow in and then turn upright.
Step 4: Slide the marshmallow out with a fork and place on waxed paper to dry. Place in the fridge to harden and then trim the excess off.
Decorate with Airheads! A few tips:
1. Microwave them for about 6-7 seconds for the perfect malleable airhead.
2. Put them between waxed paper and a bit of oil then use a rolling pin to thin them out.
3. We used mini letter cookie cutters and a pizza cutter to get the shapes we needed.
4. Roses were made by rolling one and then adding more petals around the edge.
These are not Petit fours….. this could be a candy but it is NOT a Petit four. Don’t just make up calling something what you think sounds pretty.
Wow, megan. You’re a BITCH.
Wow these are adorable! Very Alice in wonderland
So pretty! I’m wondering how the flavors mixed…did you taste the chocolate or the airheads more??
I would say I tasted the chocolate more? Both were yummy though!
oh, yum – fabulous idea
So cute, Liz. Genius idea!
I’m dying, these are so adorable!
These are sooo cute!
It’s a good idea not only for S. Valentine’s, but also for other parties!
Absolutely in love!
