Since it’s November now and sometimes fall/winter fashion is the only thing that gets me through the change of weather, I think it’s time to start talking about coats. With a big focus on menswear inspired pieces this fall I decided to focus on this menswear inspired coat and more specifically, how to actually wear it.

Here are a few tips on wearing menswear inspired coats (and most menswear inspired pieces):

1. Keep things simple. Don’t try and contrast the menswear by wearing something overly feminine like a frilly purple top or full skirt. Instead keep with simple and straight silhouettes.

2. Neutral and earthy colors are best. This shouldn’t be hard since those are the colors that are in this season anyway. Keep things low key and classic by staying with blacks, grays and whites. Don’t be afraid to put some color in there, just make sure it’s got a masculine tone… like burgundy, or a dark green.

3. Texture. To play up your outfit and keep it interesting be sure and add different textures. This jacket is great because it has a nice wool feel which pairs nicely with a suede purse or leather leggings. Add some silk or velvet to bring in some femininity if you want to play up that angle little more.
