As I mentioned before, I’m working on a few challenges with Made to Matter, Handpicked by Target™ to challenge myself to try natural, organic products for taking care of baby. Today we’re focusing on diapering. The challenge has been to use Seventh Generation organic diapers and wipes for two weeks.
Until this point I’ve always used a non-natural diaper. We started using them when Henry was a newborn and the smell has just become nostalgic for me. When I was setting up Edie’s nursery and I opened up the first pack of diapers, the smell instantly brought me back to Henry’s sweet newborn stage. Amazing how powerful those scent connections can be!

I’ve been reading up a little on the effects chemicals and toxins have on babies, whose immune systems aren’t as developed and who have less ability than adults do of eliminating those toxins. So for two weeks, I packed away our old reliable diapers and exchanged them for the Seventh Generation brand. I was a little skeptical, here’s how it went…

I’ve seen these diapers before but was hesitant that an all natural diaper with no dyes, fragrance, latex, etc could do what diapers need to do best: stop leaks. They seemed a little hippie for me. I’ve always been attracted to the natural plain color- no characters or bright colors. Starting off, I loved that most: a clean slate!

For two weeks we used Seventh Generation diapers exclusively. And….we’re still using them! They work just as well as the old ones we’ve always used, and the natural plain color and lack of dyes and fragrances is a major bonus. Enough that I think we’re making the move permanently to this diaper. I did miss the old diapers smell at first, but then realized that babies smell delicious enough without those artificial fragrances from their diapers.

What diapers do you use? Have you tried Seventh Generation? Does a natural diaper without dyes or fragrances seem attractive to you? Would you consider a diaper swap as well?
