This week marked the start of summer vacation and if your family schedule is anything like ours, we’re going to spend a lot of time traveling in the car. I thought it might be fun to start a mini series every Friday during the month of June for fun DIY car game ideas that the whole family can play together. These will all be small + simple and will make the miles fly by.
First up is this DIY tic-tac-toe game with chalkboard tiles so family members can draw their own shape or letter to play another family member with. Keep reading to see how to make it in three easy steps…

Supplies:
Square piece of felt (about 4 1/2 x 4 1/2)
Square wood chips
Chalkboard spray paint
Chalk
Permanent marker
Step 1: Draw even lines with a sharpie onto a piece of craft felt so the boxes are 3 x 3.
Step 2: Spray paint your wooden tiles with chalkboard paint and write letters, shapes or numbers on each (or let family members create their own)
Step 3: Place all the tiles, felt, and chalk into a small muslin bag for easy storage
Oh man any ideas to get my 4yr old off the iPad are greatly appreciated!
Great series idea- love the chalkboard component of this one and very small which is great
I’m really looking forward to this series – thank you for sharing! I’m especially interested in activities that might appeal to younger kids — my daughter is 2.5 and we have several long car trips planned.
