3 Tips for Travel Photos to DIY Home Decor

Between instagram and my DSLR camera, there are thousands of photos that I want to save and remember from travel and family moments together here in San Francisco but most of them end up sitting in a hard drive somewhere. I love the idea of decorating your home with images and memories that are meaningful and personal. It’s also a great Father’s Day idea for a dad as well. Here are three ideas for how we did it, working with Shutterfly and their new home decor category for photo projects…

After spending some time looking through photos we’ve taken, the ones that stood out to us to print were ones that had more of an artistic quality, a landscape or an interesting pattern (especially for the pillow). The Shutterfly site was a cinch to use from there.
The first project was a canvas print. A few years ago when these came onto the scene it seemed like they were everywhere and now  I don’t seem them around as much. I’m not sure why because I’m still a big fan for both their quality and simplicity. I love the matte finish, the texture, and you don’t have to deal with framing or string wire for hanging! They are ready to hang as they come in the box. We printed out a shot of Edie and I that Jared took from a family walk under Golden Gate Bridge.

Our second project was this pillow we made from a photo I took with my phone in a Japanese bamboo forest we visited last month. I love the depth and texture to the pillow and the touch of greenery it adds to our couch. It’s also super soft and snuggly so I think it will become a Sunday afternoon nap favorite (I’m quite particular about my couch napping pillows).

The third is another photo canvas print in a rectangular shape of our favorite places to backpack with kids in the Sierra mountains under Mount Conness (details about our camping trip here). I’m going to wrap this one up and give it to Jared for Father’s Day this year. Lucky for me, he’s not a fan of surprises because I think I just spoiled it!

Love your style and these projects look so great. Sometimes I make our trip photos into small postcards to send but other than that they say on my phone
