Making Personalized School Labels + Book Bag

Makr school labels

There are so many more things to keep track of for a little one starting school. Things get forgotten, left behind, and end up in the lost and found all the time. Today I teamed up with Makr to make some personalized labels for Henry’s back to school supplies and a personalized tote to carry library books in (he’ll tell you that ‘library’ is his favorite subject at school). Makr just launched an iPhone app in addition to their iPad version so you can design and create things like tees, totes, tattoos directly from your phone.

First, I designed the sticker labels for his notebooks, pencil case, and other school supplies with the Makr app for the iPad (which I also used for the 5 minute hot fudge and the Easter projects). So many possibilities from this tool: business cards, labels, stickers, etc. It’s a really easy to use design experience that gives you templates to start off with so you don’t have to be a designer to make a pretty product. Or, if you’re feeling really inspired you can change all the elements and design something completely unique. It’s up to you! You can then order them to be delivered or print them from home.

The tote I designed with the brand new Makr iPhone app. From this tool you can make totes, tattoos, and tees. Very similar to the iPad version, for someone like myself that’s not a designer but very design-oriented this tool is fantastic. You can play around with the type and graphics (all of which are very well edited, it’s impossible to make something ugly). You can even upload your own design. In our car ride from Santa Cruz last month instead of checking emails and mindlessly browsing friends’ facebook updates, I actually designed this tote for Henry’s school bags. Talk about productive car time!

A couple cool things: you can make small batch products- just one tote, one tee, or a sheet of tattoos. You can even sell your designs directly from their marketplace feature on the iPhone. Love that feature!
