And We’re Off!

{Life Magazine 1950}

Tomorrow morning Henry and I are flying to the Outer Banks of North Carolina for a week and a half with my family. Jared will be meeting us later this week (he’s huffing and puffing up on a backpacking trip right now in the high Sierras) and then we’re all headed up to New York where we’ll leave Henry with my parents while Jared and I travel to Switzerland and France (!!!) to visit his two sisters, Gabby and Jordan and hike around in the Alps. I’m so excited for all this vacationing coming up! I feel so lucky we’re able to take this time off together as a family. I’m not sure how often I’ll be able to post and keep you updated on everything but I’ll try my best!
One of my favorite activities we do in the Outer Banks is go crabbing in the bay so I thought this photo above was appropriate. It’s so fun, have you ever been? We have quite a feast afterwards too!

Sidenote: Pleasantly surprised this morning to receive an email about being the featured blogger of the month over at HGTV. Fancy! I have no idea what I did to deserve this but I’m flattered. Go check out the article here

We just returned from the Outer Banks. Hope you have a marvelous trip!

Sounds like an amazing adventure! Have a wonderful time! Give me a shout if you swing through Hoboken and have time for coffee. Congrats on the feature! Love the pics.

Liz, the artist I am speaking of is Grainger Mckoy. My best friend and her husband (Grainger's son) own the jewelry business. Gorgeous pieces and all made from original works of art. Definitely worth looking into! If I have time later this evening I will email you the link to his website. xo

Caroline, we are very close to that! I know exactly where it is. Thanks, I'll check it out!

Liz, if you will be anywhere near Duck, NC in the Outer Banks, you should check out the Sanderling Inn if you haven't already. If memory serves me correctly, the halls are lined with the owners collection of Hermes scarves (or at least back in the early 2000s when I was last there). Anyway, the sculpture of a very talented sculptor is there as well. His daughter-in-law is my best friend. You will be blown away by the artwork. It is a must see. Hope you all have a great trip. xo

sounds like you have such amazing plans — enjoy it all, and congratulations on the blogger recognition! you deserve it!

Have fun on your vacay! My fam is planning a beach trip to the outer banks of NC next year. I'm excited to hear how your trip goes. Travel safe. Also, of COURSE you're a featured blogger. That was a no-brainer. You've been killing it with DIY & crafty posts this summer.

Liz, I'm so excited for you guys what an adventure!! Have fun and say hello to the Blair kids for me. ;]

we LOVE the OBX. i have spent many a happy day there. congrats on being blogger of the month! xxo

How great that you get to spend a week and a half in OBX. It's such a great place! If you're staying anywhere near Duck, you must experience Duck Donuts (go early in the morning when they are fresh)- so delicious!!Enjoy all legs of your vacation! 🙂

have fun! the OBX is one of my favourite spots in North America. Congratulations on the feature – you deserve it!

how did you shoot you picture in such a gloomy way? it feels like looking at a 50's.

gosh you are so lucky! Have the most amazing time and don't forget to tell us ALL about it when you get back!

enjoy it, liz! and please give france a big kiss from me 🙂

Alt sounds so fun! Can't to hear about it. And I love this skiing photo!

I hope you have fun!! The rain has been melting our snow, but that means its a bit warmer than typical. You have a beautiful family 🙂 I wish you the best!

Hi – found you through that Salon.com article… I'm sure you've heard of it ;-)Have a great time in Park City!

Oh man, it's killing me that I couldn't make the trip this year. I really wanted to hear you and all of my favorite bloggers speak. Enjoy, enjoy! (I'll be anxiously awaiting reports next week). Also, have fun on the slopes! We're hopefully squeezing in a bit of northeast snowboarding this season.

gorgeous photo. hope henry loves skiing- it was my favorite thing to do as a kid, by far! good luck at alt!xolindseyhttp://lindseyandorlando.blogspot.com/

I'm sure you know this, but make sure you've got lots of handwarmers for Henry's first ski trip. And buy him outrageously priced hot chocolate to warm him up and cement positive ski-thoughts.Nothing slows a kid down like getting cold on the mountain. Have a great time!

First- did you see that you were referenced in Slate and second did you see in the comments that people think you are part of the LDS church's PR efforts and don't actually exist? It made me laugh

Have a great time! It's been too long since I've been down in that area! Hi from Boise, Idaho.

Brandi– ahh you are reminding me I need to work on my presentation! See you next week! Maria, are you coming to Alt as well?

Have a safe trip! I am excited to see so many bloggers in UT this week!

I'm off to Salt Lake City on Wednesday for Alt Summit — and I'm so excited! Can't wait to hear what you think the great up and coming blogs are!
