I have another swaddle blanket DIY to share with you today. In case you missed the other two, we made a star stamped swaddle and an ombre dyed one a couple weeks ago. This time we channeled our 80s childhood and did a simple one color tie-dye. This is actually my first tie-dye project and it’s been fun to experiment with different methods and techniques. In the past I haven’t been a huge fan of tie-dye (seemed to be too much of a color explosion), however a one color tie-dye with a lot of white space I can totally get on board with and that type of dyeing seems to be popular right now.

Materials:

Dye- I used Rit Dye
Gauze fabric
A bin to work in
Rubber gloves
Rubber bands
A squeeze jar- like these

Directions:

Step 1: Fold the fabric in half and then start folding it accordion style all the way until it’s bunched up together. 

Step 2: Add rubber bands every 1 1/2 inches or so. Make them really tight!

Step 3: Mix dye according to package directions and place some into a squeeze bottle. Start adding the dye just around the rubber bands leaving the in-between parts white. The color will bleed out but the concentration should be around the rubber bands.

Step 4: When you’ve finished, let the blanket sit for at least 6 hours or until mostly dried. Then throw it into the dryer for a couple cycles (I think we need to do 2 or 3). Take the rubber bands off and then throw in the dryer one more time.
