Sunday night I made some homemade apple turnovers. The recipe was from America’s Test Kitchen Family Cookbook, which is currently my most reliable cookbook. Everything is great. Very explicit directions, pictures, etc. It’s very comprehensive too- you can find a great recipe for everything in there. A great cookbook. The thing that was surprising about the recipe was that the filling was half apples (crushed in a food processor and mixed with lemon juice, sugar, etc) and half applesauce. They also insisted that the frozen pastry sheets you find in the grocery store are better than trying to make it by hand.
Here are some photos of the process:

Anyway, the turnovers were delicious, if I do say so myself. Celeste and Matt came over to enjoy them with us (and of course Celeste entertained Hank the whole time, who was in a surprisingly perfect mood).
