We’ve got a colorful DIY today making these super easy display shelves in partnership with The Home Depot Paint…
This project was focused on The Home Depot’s PPG Color of the year, Chinese Porcelain. It’s such an elegant, classic blue that’s timeless and calming. A great choice for an interior project at home!
Along with Chinese Porcelain, the other three are also included in PPG Popular Paint Colors of 2020: Turner’s Yellow, Atrium White, and Kangaroo Paw (the pink at the top). I added the Tabasco to bring the color palette together for this project.
It was so fun to play around with the colors using their ProjectColor™ App. You can browse paint colors, color match for inspiration, explore color trends, and even order paints through the app to your nearest store (yay for not waiting in line!). (app image)
I was inspired by these images to create some display shelves for my 3 yr old and 6 yr old’s trinkets and collection. Both of them are SO into collecting things like mini erasers, fairy potions, shells, rocks, etc. Each of them have treasure jars but they love to display them as well.
These colorful shelves are such an easy and fun way to not only display treasures, but also add some modern, colorful interest to your room. Mounting them to the wall (I just used Command Strips), is so easy to do and makes it feel like a permanent fixture with rotating collections!
First, I picked natural wood boxes in a couple different depths so some could act as truly display, and others could be used as a space to play around with small dolls. Edie’s favorite thing is to create doll rooms with boxes laying around. Next, I picked out small sample colors from The Home Depot PPG Paint (they’re usually under $4, guys!) and some small brushes. Then it was time to get to work!
I painted the bottom, or what will be the back ‘wall’ on the boxes with each of the featured colors.
That’s it! The girls loved decorating each one with special collections, and the colors pop so much with that natural wooden box.
