Thanksgiving is just a month away but since we won’t be with family this year due to COVID, I’m already thinking how we can make it special. Here are two kid-friendly DIYs for a festive table…
First, some easy placemats! We made some some personalized ones with kraft paper, a chalkboard marker, and fall colored markers.
We traced a plate and drew the utensils on the side, adding some decorative leaves. Then we added some color details with markers in fall colors. Each child’s placemat is personalized with his or her name. Provide a small jar with markers and colored pencils. While they wait for dinner to be served, they can draw on their placemat plate what they’d like to eat from the items being served. Or they can write what they’re thankful for this Thanksgiving
One other small detail that can be a good busy activity for kids is a cereal necklace threading activity. We used whole grain Cheerios and some natural string. We added a small piece of tape on the end of each string to make it easier for the child to thread. I love the natural fall colors of the cereal with the table setting. Leave a jars of cereal with string as part of the centerpiece!
Time to eat! What are you doing to make Thanksgiving special this year at home?
