Living far from family is hard, how do you stay connected with them? Today we’re chatting about it in partnership with Facebook Portal.
Video calling is a great way to connect but the problem is honestly, it can be tricky with kids. Dot inevitably hogs the phone and takes it on a jumpy, wild ride running through the house that no one enjoys. Also, it’s hard to find a time when we’re all sitting and ready to chat. Things are too hectic.
Ironically though, it’s the every day chaotic moments our loved ones long to see. Dinner prep, homework time, dance parties, and funny stories as the kids come in the door from school. Those seemingly mundane glimpses into our day to day life at home are what makes us feel closer to family far away.
My mom especially can chat for hours with kids about what’s going on- it’s amazing how much she can get out of them! She’s one of those people that’s so genuinely interested in others and always knows the right questions to ask. This Mother’s Day we’re partnering with Portal from Facebook to talk about an incredible gift to give your mom or someone else you love that lives far away. It’s become one of our favorite ways to connect with family through video calling, and right now for a limited time you can get one for just $99, which is such an incredible deal and won’t last.
Have you heard about the Portal from Facebook? I had some friends who’ve raved about it, so I was so excited to be able to check it out myself!
We leave our Portal from Facebook in the corner of the kitchen when we’re doing homework, or cooking dinner, so my mom and dad can chat with the kids and entertain them a bit (so helpful!). One of my favorite features is Story Time. My parents pick a story on the screen, and as they read out loud, the story animates for the kids. It’s so entertaining for them! They get so into seeing every little detail of the story from the animated characters my parents turned into, to the sound effects and background illustrations.
Its cool
I can’t imagine not being physically close to my family! I guess I’m lucky in that pretty much all my family live here in Hong Kong.
