Do you have a wrapping tradition for the holidays? Growing up in our family, Santa had a specific wrapping theme for presents under the tree that I’ve decided to start also doing this year…
We’d come down Christmas morning and everything was wrapped in white tissue paper. All the presents stacked up under the tree looked like a blanket of snow, especially in our family of 8. The pile was sometimes quite impressive, and it was so pretty! Names would be written in marker, and sometimes there would be ribbon as well if it was extra special. But with 6 kids for Santa to gift at our home, there wasn’t a lot of time to decorate each gift. They were pretty good about using several layers of tissue but if you snuck down early and pressed the tissue paper down hard against the gift you might get a peek of what was inside. That was always exciting!

Don’t tell, but I’m going to gift the scarf to my mother, and the books and origami to Henry. Henry’s set on a phone (not getting one), a dog (nope), or video games (meh, he already has so many). That was the extent of his list which leaves a lot of room for brainstorming on Santa’s part. 11 year old boys are hard to shop for, but I guess that’s a topic for another conversation.
I’ve been started to do some wrapping for our family this year already (bonus of being a blogger who needs to photograph things early!). Last year on Christmas morning I remember thinking that I wanted to start the all white wrapping theme this year so I’m committed now! I’m adding a few little touches like subtle colors of ribbon (cream, grey, light pink), natural twine, and bits of eucalyptus leaves.
Honestly, we’ll see when we’re speed wrapping Christmas Eve if those get added or if we just throw a name on with marker. Sometimes I love wrapping and sometimes it’s stressful. Our favorite tradition is to wrap and watch Chevy Chase Christmas Vacation. It’s too adult for the kids, but still really fun and entertaining.
