We turned our master closet into a bathroom a couple months ago, would you like to see pictures?
This is where we started! This was the closet in our master bedroom, but we didn’t have a master bathroom. I was getting pretty sick of sharing a bathroom with three kids, especially a tween boy. The closet is 8 x 12 feet. Which is small for a bathroom, but our contractor said it would still work.
The other side of the master bedroom bedroom had a sunroom that was attached to it. That space had become a dumping ground for junk and random boxes. The plan was to knock down the walls on half of the sunroom to create a reading nook, and the other half make into a new closet. You can see below how it looked before and after we completed this part (still waiting on new windows). That door below was always there, connecting the bedroom to the sunroom so we kept it and that’s where the new closet is.
This was before we started. On the other side of the large window + door is the sunroom which is also accessed from the kitchen. Below is after we knocked out that window and wall, creating a reading nook on the left side, and closet on the right side.
CRAZY, right?? We’re going to skip ahead to the end, but I wanted to give you at least an idea of where we started! One thing I was really happy about was the simplicity of the shower. Because we didn’t have much room, we went with a half glass shower door. This was also a fraction of the cost of a full glass enclosure like we did in our downstairs bathroom, and I LOVE how it turned out! (see full list of sources at the end)
This was the piece of wood we picked up from a local lubber company. It’s a thick slab of spalted maple. Jared has experience in cabinetry from when he was younger, so he was confident he could do it. To be honest, I was a bit nervous! At the local lubber company they cut it perfectly to the size we wanted. FYI I think this thick piece of wood cost about $200.
He used a jigsaw to cut the hole and a router to make the lip for the sink inside. It turned out SO GOOD. Our contractors came back to finish the plumbing for the sink after he finished the countertop and installed the sink inside.
The small mint ceramic towel rack above the toilet is from Urban Outfitters (out of stock though). The towel is from Schoolhouse Electric (out of stock too). The artwork is by Dot!
The wall mounted shelf is from World Market (sorry don’t have a great picture of these last ones). Another great find and on sale!

Your bathroom looks amazing. I understand how much effort and time was invested in it. Although the most important thing is to be really lucky with the master, and his work was high-quality and prompt. in order not to complicate the repair process, I always read the bath fitter cost and reviews before calling the master to clearly understand what to expect from him
Very fresh! Updating the interior of your bathroom – do not forget about plumbing. But the service https://www.plumbernearmeusa.com/plumber-near-me-chicago can help you with this, however, you should not take on all the headache and solve everything yourself if you are not confident in your abilities
Hi!:) Thank you for your photos, the project turned out very cool and looks amazing. I’m also planning a small update, and I’m even thinking about installing bathroom exhaust fans, which I read about in the article https://www.montgomeryelec.com/exhaust-fan/ I think this is a good idea. Did you change the wiring during your repair?:)
Hi! I love what you did with your bathroom. We recently uncovered a roof leak that may result in needing to gut our bathroom. I returned to look at your post because I was so inspired but what you did with the space. I’m wondering how the half glass shower door is working out. Does water spray on the floor outside of the area that is protected by the glass door? I’d love to do something like this but I worry water will spray everywhere.

We have the same one in our downstairs bathroom and love it!
Gorgeous! I’m a huge fan of Cedar and Moss and have several of their fixtures in my house, including the bathroom. I’m always worried about ordering large pieces from Wayfair. It seems returning would be such an issue. Have you always had good luck? What do you look for in a piece when you shop there? Enjoy the new bathroom!
