Teaching and inspiring kids to choose healthy, balanced meals as they get older and more autonomous is freaking challenging! Today we’re sharing a fun activity today we worked on in partnership with Revolution Foods…
The older kids get, the more autonomy they have in their food choices which is a bit terrifying! I really want to empower my kids to make healthy and balanced choices as they grow so they aren’t living off chips and candy by the time they’re 16, or worse by the time they’re 40. Luckily there are companies like Revolution Foods that have a similar mission. The company designs, produces, and delivers meals to 2,500 school and community centers nationwide. That’s 2 million healthy, kid-inspired, and delicious meals each week! One less meal to worry about for these growing kids.
In the bay area specifically, Revolution Foods has debuted several new initiatives to drive student participation, engagement and satisfaction with its meals such as: implementing new packaging that allows students to easily see the delicious offerings, serving side veggies with tasty dressings and seasonings to ensure students enjoy eating veggies, and launching a new thematic lunch menu that is loaded with student favorites based on student survey results. Whether it’s Taco Tuesdays or Try it Thursdays, students get to try a variety of delicious items throughout the week.
During the first month of school, Revolution Foods spoke to over 600 students across Bay Area schools to ensure these initiatives worked as planned. The feedback revealed that over 70% of students loved the meals!
In addition to getting feedback from students, Revolution Foods also engages with parents during back to school nights, PTA meetings, etc. to ensure their feedback is heard and incorporated into the meal program.
First we sat cutting out fruits, veggies, carbs, and proteins out of colored paper, we talked about what benefits each food was, and how to put them together for a well-balanced, healthy, and colorful meal.
At first, Edie was surprised that pizza was included as a healthy meal option in our little craft, and it sparked a great conversation about balance! That there aren’t many ‘bad foods’, mostly just poorly balanced diets. Pizza with a salad and fruit was a well-balanced meal.
A very meaningful and humane act. Thank you for sharing the information. online jigsaw puzzles
