An Afternoon in Bernal Heights

My friend Sarah lives on the other side of San Francisco from where we lived, so there are a lot of spots I’ve never explored in her neck of the woods. Today we’re tagging along with Sarah and her two kids, Viv and Hollis, at a couple of their favorite spots in Bernal Heights…

Our first stop was Bernal Heights Park. It’s a great place for a walk up the windy path with sweeping views of the city. A lot of dog owners head up there so lots of friendly pups to pet as well.

Those views!! It’s really an incredible spot to see San Francisco.

The best part for kids though are the two tree swings!

Sarah was pleasantly surprised to see the tire swing, which is new. The wooden swing has been up for a year or so. Perfect for two kids who don’t want to take turns!

What kid or adult wouldn’t love a evening swing over the beautiful city. I want to come back here with Jared on a date one night (someone hang a double chair swing, please!).

Next, when the kids had worked up an appetite, we headed to the sweet Little Bee Bakery in the central Bernal Heights shopping district just down the hill from the park.

They have lots of delicious treats like cupcakes, muffins, cookies, and sweet breads. They also have frozen cookie and pizza dough. I picked up a couple frozen pizza doughs to stock in my fridge.

They also have delicious lattes, which Sarah and I both had.

The inside is cozy with some great magazines to read while you watch them frost chocolate cakes and mix breads in the back of the bakery. Perfect spot for a treat. Across the street is the Bernal Heights library with a really great kids section, so you really could spend all afternoon there. We’ll be back for sure!

Thanks Sarah for taking us on a mini tour of your favorite spots!

This place looks amazing and great time you shared with family! All pictures looks adorable in your post. Thanks

Bernal Heights is such an amazing place! We finally made it there (after 5.5 years living in the Bay Area!) last December and the views – wow! My kids loved the swing, but when we visited there was only a wooden swing and it was different from the one in these pictures. On our walk up from Bart we found a small park with slides. It was perfectly located for when the kids were ready for a little break. You should check out the slides if you take your kids there.
