We’ve done potato stamping before and I’m always pleasantly surprised with how easy it is, and how nice it turns out when done the right way. Today we’re making some fall leaves with our potato stamps. It’s a great way to get the kids busy while you’re baking this week, and then you can use it as a tablecloth for the kids table on Thanksgiving! Or, simply some window stamping with washable paint on a rainy day. Here’s how to make them…

1. Carving a potato is a lot easier than it looks. We simply used a pairing knife and didn’t have much difficulty getting details. Obviously, this part should be done by an adult or teenager.

2. Before you start painting, wipe off each stamp with a rag. You want it to be as dry as possible. You only have to do this once before you begin the project.

3. Then, using a foam brush, paint on the craft paint directly onto the stamp form. You want very little so try not to be heavy handed.

4. Before you stamp onto your desired surface, stamp one time onto some scrap paper. We found the stamp looked a lot better the 2nd,3rd or even 4th stamp. If your kids are little, this detailed-oriented process might be too frustrating so just let them do it however they’d like!

We picked one color for each stamp which was easiest. Kids love stamping, Edie was such a fun of this project!
