The Easiest BBQ Chicken Recipe

easy bbq chicken recipe

We don’t have any outdoor space at our flat here in San Francisco; not even a porch or balcony to call our own! I’ve missed bbqing like crazy, especially during the summer, but I’ve figured out a great way to cheat it! Today I’m sharing a delicious family bbq sauce recipe and a tip for bbqing indoors. I promise, this homemade bbq sauce is way better than the bottled stuff, and all the ingredients are probably in your cupboard right now. I attempted Ina’s homemade bbq once and I had to take a nap halfway through it was so exhausting. Way too many ingredients. This one is really easy and a crowd pleaser. Especially when your crowd includes babies in diapers…

BBQ Sauce:

1/2 cup ketcup
1/4 cup soy sauce
2 T vegetable oil
1/4 cup brown sugar
1/3 cup vinegar
lots of pepper
1/2 lemon squeezed

Chicken breasts or tenders

Marinate the chicken (up to four breasts) in the sauce for at least an hour or so and then grill on low outside or inside on a grill pan like we use below:

For an easy cleanup we used Seventh Generation green cleaning products, like the Disinfecting Multi-Surface Cleaner below, so little ones can help with the whole process and you won’t have to worry about harsh chemicals. seventh-generation-diapers

We’ve also been big fans of the Seventh Generation Free and Clear Diapers and Free and Clear baby wipes  since Edie was born (another post we’ve done about them last summer here). Once I switched to their diapers I never went back to anything else, honestly. These natural diapers are free of latex, fragrances, and they are excellent at stopping leaks. I also love that they’re free of patterns and obnoxious cartoon characters. It’s hard enough to find clothing that’s simple! Whenever we’re doing a messy project I love to strip Edie down to her diaper and undershirt. Another way to make cleanup easy with kids is to be in as little clothing as possible.

Love how simple this recipe is! I love bbq, but living in Boston – I’m in the same situation, as in, living in an apartment sans outdoor space. But, I’m excited to give your recipe a spin!

Thank you so much for the recipe! I’m totally going to try it this weekend.

Edie is growing up so fast! So cute! 🙂

I also like the dish soap from Seventh Generation. (I sometimes wash fruit with it. Haha.)
