DIY Felt Pilgrim Hat (No Sew!)

DIY felt pilgrim hat

I always love the idea of kids dressing up as pilgrims for Thanksgiving, being a huge creature of tradition. I’m pretty sure we did something like this when I was younger but of course there weren’t hundred of iPhone photos back then to prove anything. I was surprised how EASY these felt pilgrim hats were! Each one took about 3 minutes to make. No sewing. Just two cuts, three folds, hot glue and you’re done! Back to making those pumpkin pies and early holiday shopping (ooooor working on your own wishlist).

I roughly used the paper pilgrim hat instructions from here as my guide, but found them way too big for a child (and I don’t know any adults that would want to sport one of these anyway).

Step 1: Cut a piece of felt 12 inches x 16 inches. This size is perfect for a child. For a baby you may want to go even smaller (maybe 10 x 14)

Step 2: Using the template above, cut two slits in the felt 4 inches high and 4 inches wide.

Step 3: Fold over 2 inches and iron flat.

Step 4: Fold over one side to match up with the furthest slit. Hot glue. Fold the other side and hot glue that as well (see below)

Step 5: Glue ribbon inside the folded edges of the hat.

Thank you, I really needed this hat for a last minute photoshoot and I have absolutely no time for sewing!
