DIY Gold Leaf Vase

how to make a gold leaf vase

We had so much fun with the gold leaf pencils last week that I’m sharing another gold leaf tutorial today. The best part about this project is that the surface is large and easy to apply the gold leaf to; this took only about 5 minutes to make once the adhesive was on and dry. I love how it turned out,  I think it might be my new favorite vase!

Supplies:

Gold leaf sheets
3 brushes
Gold leaf adhesive
Gold leaf sealer (or this $4 acrylic coating is supposed to be a great cheaper alternative )
Vase (mine is from a thrift store)

Directions:

1. Coat about 1/3rd of the bottom half of the vase with the gold leaf adhesive and let sit until sticky and mostly dry.

2. Rip pieces of the gold foil and apply gently with a thin brush and your fingers. You want the edge to be rough and textured so no perfectionism needed here, luckily. I’m horrible at doing things perfectly.

3. Brush off excess pieces with a dry brush and spray with the gold leaf sealer

Liz, this project is so gorgeous, and so easy!! I have a stash of gold leaf that needs using, and a collection of boring vases out in the garage. Hooray!

Ooh, I don’t think you can ever have too many vases but this one would keep me from buying any more for a very long time. Great DIY!

So striking and perfect styling against that black wall. Do you have black walls in your place or is this a set?

it’s just a chalkboard backdrop, It’s a really useful thing to have (just painted a foam board with chalkboard paint). I use it as a surface as well 🙂

Oooh, pretty! I love that you went with rose gold vs. regular gold. Its unexpected and not something I’ve already seen:)
