DIY: Hank’s Bunting Crayon Roll

I’ve been wanting to make Hank a crayon roll for a little while. As I started cutting out a basic one this idea came to me to pretty it up a bit by making the crayon pockets into a bunting banner instead of the traditional straight pockets.
I was able to fix the mistakes I made by winging it, and in the end I really am pleased with the final product.

I started with some bunting cut out of pretty turquoise felt (leftover from the bunting banner I made in his room).
Sewed it on top of two pieces of stripey linen with ribbon attached which had been sewed together and turned inside out. Linen was not the best choice here, but it was the only stripey fabric I had left in my stash.
I love how that blue pops from the striped background

this is wonderful! such an interesting and original twist on an old favorite. i had a crayon apron as a kid – a half apron with slots for crayons along the bottom. now i can imagine using this bunting design to make a crayon apron. maybe i'll make one for myself! (seen on whipup.net)

This is absolutely lovely. I'll try to make one.. some day!! I love your blog!

That is so cute. I have made them before, but your idea with the triangles looks to great ( and maybe easier), it makes me think of a banner. : )

oh liz, this is fantastic! mostly because the triangle shape would actually hold the crayon inside… not to mention it's cuteness. i'm pulling out my machine today for several other projects, looks like i have one more :)have a wonderful thanksgiving tomorrow. any utah trips in your future?

wow! that is adorable!i've made a crayon roll before, but would have never thought to make it look like bunting! and, i bet it makes it easier to get the crayons in and out! genius!
