I saw this $40 santa beard from Oeuf last week and thought to myself (as I often find myself thinking), “This is totally DIYable”. This project takes only about 10 minutes to make, and under $2 in supplies. Your child will love to play dress up as Santa for hours afterwards, making a list of naughty and nice behaviors seen around the house, collecting toys and wrapping gifts. After you cut out the initial shape, it’s totally a project kids can help with. Henry and I often do a tag team (“I’ll put the glue dot, you add the cotton ball” kind of arrangement).
It’s made with fabric, so it’s totally re-useable, I’m planning on packing ours into our Christmas box after the holidays for re-use next season.
Here’s what you’ll need for supplies…
Supplies: White cotton fabric (medium-heavy weight), Cotton balls, Scissors, hot glue, elastic, pen, sewing machine or stapler
Step 1: Cut out a Santa beard shape on the fabric ( I drew it first on paper since I’m a pretty bad artist)
Step 2: Cut it out, leaving room for the mouth in between the mustache and beard
Step 3: Cut a piece of elastic about 12 inches long (measure your little one’s head first) and sew or staple it onto the ends of the mustache like so:
I didn’t care so much about the staples showing since they’ll be covered anyway.
Step 4: Hot glue or fabric glue cotton balls onto the Santa beard.
That’s it! Let it dry so it’s not hot and let your little one ho ho ho his or her way around the house

Somebody once told me the world is gonna roll me
I ain’t the sharpest tool in the shed
She was looking kind of dumb with her finger and her thumb
In the shape of an “L” on her forehead
Well the years start coming and they don’t stop coming
Fed to the rules and I hit the ground running
Didn’t make sense not to live for fun
Your brain gets smart but your head gets dumb
So much to do, so much to see
So what’s wrong with taking the back streets?
You’ll never know if you don’t go
You’ll never shine if you don’t glow
Hey now, you’re an all-star, get your game on, go play
Hey now, you’re a rock star, get the show on, get paid
And all that glitters is gold
Only shooting stars break the mold
It’s a cool place and they say it gets colder
You’re bundled up now, wait till you get older
But the meteor men beg to differ
Judging by the hole in the satellite picture
The ice we skate is getting pretty thin
The water’s getting warm so you might as well swim
My world’s on fire, how about yours?
That’s the way I like it and I never get bored
Hey now, you’re an all-star, get your game on, go play
Hey now, you’re a rock star, get the show on, get paid
All that glitters is gold
Only shooting stars break the mold
Hey now, you’re an all-star, get your game on, go play
Hey now, you’re a rock star, get the show, on get paid
And all that glitters is gold
Only shooting stars
Somebody once asked could I spare some change for gas?
I need to get myself away from this place
I said yep what a concept
I could use a little fuel myself
And we could all use a little change
Well, the years start coming and they don’t stop coming
Fed to the rules and I hit the ground running
Didn’t make sense not to live for fun
Your brain gets smart but your head gets dumb
So much to do, so much to see
So what’s wrong with taking the back streets?
You’ll never know if you don’t go (go!)
You’ll never shine if you don’t glow
Hey now, you’re an all-star, get your game on, go play
Hey now, you’re a rock star, get the show on, get paid
And all that glitters is gold
Only shooting stars break the mold
And all that glitters is gold
Only shooting stars break the mold
This is such a great idea! I’m going to do it with my son on craft day this week, he’ll really enjoy it!
