Giving Back for Back to School

Back to school is on my mind now that our travel is wrapped up and we’re getting settled back at home. It’s always so crazy how quickly summer speeds up at the end, are you feeling ready for the school year starting again? I’m happy to have partnered with JCPenney to help spread the word about a great promotion they have going on to give back this time of year…

For a lot of families, back to school shopping is a major financial strain and they can’t afford the basics their children need like socks and underwear. While many low income families rely on buying used clothing, socks and underwear are more difficult to buy used.  Not having these basic necessities can cause a lot of embarrassment and lead to poor school attendance for these kids.

There’s something we can do to help. JCPenney has teamed up with the Y to help give back to these families by donating a pack of socks or underwear for every pack you buy during between August 1-15, up to 750,000 pairs.

My friend Amanda is wearing a scoop neck t-shirt, a denim skirt, and Goldtoe knee-high socks from JCPenney.  Her daughter Lela is wearing an Arizona tank top, denim jeggings, and Okie Dokie low cut socks from JCPenney. Her son Nova is wearing OshKosh pull-on boys jeans with suspenders, a Carter’s onesie, and red Okie Dokie sport baby socks from JCPenney.

We do a lot of purging this year as school begins, re-evaluating what each child needs and donating outgrown pieces to our local charity. I recently read a tip that was helpful to get the kids involved in back to school organization. Have them go through their own drawers, removing items that are old or outgrown, and make a list of what they might need. I’m always overwhelmed by the process of clothing organization, storing, donating, etc for multiple children and my sister in law Gabby posted about it recently if you’re interested in her process. We try to do a lot of donating as well since our children grow so quickly and it’s a great way to give back.

Do you have any tips for back to school organization and ways to give back this time of year?

Thanks to my friend Amanda and her sweet children for modeling, and thanks to JCPenney for sponsoring this post. Remember, for every pack of socks or underwear you buy between August 1-15, they’ll donate a pack to the Y to help families in need, up to 750,000 pairs.
