Baking with Toddlers: Rainbow Pizza

rainbow pizza

We started a fun series called Baking with Toddlers where we share toddler-friendly recipes you can work together on in the kitchen. Today we’ve got a pretty one! We’re making a delicious rainbow pizza with colorful, healthy toppings that the whole family will love to help assemble and eat. Ashley, an assistant editor here at Say Yes, and her sweet daughters came over to join us. Here’s how it went…rainbow pizza

Sometimes if I’m feeling ambitious I make my own dough. Sometimes I grab pre-made dough at Trader Joes when I’m buying groceries for the week. If I’m really short on planning I grab some dough at our local pizza place for just $4.

We let both Hazel and Edie have a turn with the rolling pin, a bit of flour, and let them work on that dough for a few minutes. Even when we’re baking, I like to have plenty of snacks for toddlers, so we filled the snack catchers with crackers and pretzels. These things are genius. They’re easy for hands to get, but they don’t spill. Or the Miracle 360 cup! Sleek, modern design. No sprout, and no spill! This is what I love about Munchkin: thoughtful, smart, well designed, innovative products that make sense.

We then placed a spoonful of marinara sauce in the middle and let the girls swirl that around a bit. Next, cheese! They each had a bowl of mozzarella cheese to sprinkle on top. The bowls are Munchkin’s love-a-bowl set.  So many great uses for these! Baby food, toddler meals, and small storage with a no-spill lid.

Next up we’ve got the toppings!! You can use any veggie, cheese, or meat here. We used cherry tomatoes, pepperoni, orange peppers, carrots, yellow zucchini, yellow peppers, spinach, and red onion. Ashley showed them how to make the colorful rows and then we let the kids place the toppings accordingly. A great opportunity to review colors as well as sample some veggies they might not normally eat at the dinner table.

While we anxiously waited for the pizza in the oven, Ashley fed her 6 month old, Bea (in a little penguin bib!). We used this smart Munchkin product called the squeeze spoon that keeps pureed baby food in the pouch and you squeeze a bit into the attached spoon for easy feeding. We also used the love-a-bowl for chunkier food, like the avocado.

Oh! And these are so smart as well: the lift infant spoon with a base that keeps the spoon off the table so it stays clean. I love seeing all these fun new baby feeding products. When Henry was born, pouches weren’t even a thing and now they’re old news!

With the pizza out of the oven it’s time to eat!

We cut the pizza in long strips so you could get the whole spectrum of rainbow color in one slice.  We encouraged them to try all the veggies, but inevitably the onions and peppers ended up getting picked off. Always the onions and peppers with kids!

A delicious, healthy lunch for toddler tummies and also hungry adults. Hooray for rainbow pizza!

How cute! And that’s a pretty tasty looking pizza 🙂
We have a lot of Munchkin products in our kitchen. Those Miracle Cups really do work so well and there’s always Snack Catcher filled with blueberries or Cheerios in the stroller.
