Every year during Halloween I end up making festive food with donuts. I just can’t help myself. There are so many fun possibilities and donuts seem so appropriate for Halloween. Last year we made donut hole ghosts and donut spiders and today I’m sharing these candy corn donut hole monsters, and a super easy way to make your own colored powered sugar…
To make colored powered sugar: simple add a couple drops of food coloring into powdered sugar and blend until smooth. We made orange and yellow for our candy corn donut holes.
Drop the donut hole into the powered sugar…
Shake shake shake it up…
Jab with a skewer and gently slide on trying not to touch the sides too much.
We made three dipping sauces to go with them: cinnamon cream cheese, raspberry, and chocolate. Here are the recipes:
Cinnamon Cream Cheese Dipping Sauce
4 oz. cream cheese
2 T butter
1 cup powdered sugar
1/2 t vanilla
2 T cream
pinch of cinnamon
Raspberry Vanilla Dipping Sauce
1/2 cup raspberry jam
1 T water
2 t vanilla
warm together on stove
Chocolate Dipping Sauce
Add semi sweet chocolate chips with a bit of cream on the stove until desired consistency
To add eyeballs, simple stick a bit of the cream cheese dipping sauce on the eyeball and place it on your donut hole. Enjoy!
