Fingerling Potato Ghost Stamps

potato stamping

I love using fingerling potatoes for stamping projects. You can cut them at an angle into almost any shape you want and can create dozens of things with them. I’ve done a few projects with fingerling potatoes that I love like the cactus stamped tea towel and the fruit and veggie tea towel. Today I’m making spooky ghost stamps with them for treat bags or a Halloween tablecloth (below).

Supplies:

fingerling potatoes
Large knife
Small pairing knife
potato peeler
white craft or fabric paint
small foam brush

1. Cut potatoes in half long ways. We looked for a variety of sizes, including ones that were twisting at an angle to give a flying ghost effect.

3. Scoop out eyes with the end of a potato peeler, and make 3-4 small triangles at the bottom for the frayed ghost edges.

3. Dab white paint gently onto ghost with a small foam bush and press firmly onto paper or fabric with newspaper or another protective surface underneath. Let dry completely.

Comments

I love potato stamping! I did it as a kid and was excited to share it with my oldest son. I need to revisit the activity with him, and with his little brother as well, and Halloween (and other upcoming holidays) is the perfect excuse to get on it and bust out those spuds. (:
