Color the Globe, Three Ways

seedling craft

We love doing craft projects in the summer when we have time to kill and need to keep the kids busy while I’m working on other things. Today I’m sharing a fun, educational activity we worked on with Seedling called Color the Globe! We’re sharing three different ways to use their genius activity kit as a jumping off point. Keep reading to see more about it after the jump…

Have you heard of Seedling? They’re some of the most creative activity kits for kids I’ve ever seen. Everything from this color the globe blow up ball, to constructing a snow globe, making butterfly wings, designing superhero wings, and a ton more. Instructions are clear and everything is included. The perfect summer activity to do with any age kid, or for a playdate. Today we’re taking one craft kit, color the globe, and showing three ways to use it. You could certainly follow the instructions to just color it in but I couldn’t help but add a few other ideas as well to think outside the box and spark some creative juice in your kids as well. And right now they’re offering a 30% off code to Say Yes readers! See details at the bottom of the post.

1. This first idea is an embroidered travel map of a trip your family has been on or would love to go on in the future. Using embroidery floss and a needle, just tie a knot at each location and continue on to the next spot. A fun activity for older children who have good dexterity and an interest in sewing and a touch of wanderlust.

3. The second version is the standard way the craft is explained. Coloring the globe however way you choose. If your family travels a lot, you can color in the countries you’ve been to and even color code if different family members have been different places making it fun for the whole family. The package some with fabric markers but I also had my own.

3. The last version makes for a good summer teaching tool, and add an equator light to serve at a night light!  Read a short story or watch a youtube video about the culture or history of a different country every night. Afterwards, write the name or color the country you learned about on your globe.

String an LED wire strand through the hold in the fabric where the balloon is blown up and try to line it up with the equator line. Then place it on a nightstand or dresser for a fun globe nightlight that you can switch on or off.

Build, imagine, play! Seedling helps bring kids’ ideas to life with beautifully designed, all-in-one projects that encourage children to follow their own creative initiative. Enjoy 30% off at Seedling when you choose your own adventure using the code Seedling30. Offer valid one per customer; discount does not apply to past purchases, packaging, applicable taxes, or shipping and handling. Expires July 17, 2015 at 11:59 pm PST.
