Edie Jean’s 20 Month Update: 12 Things I Don’t Want to Forget

munchkin baby

This baby girl will be 20 months in just a few days. What??? I just looked back at her 12 month update and can’t believe how much has changed in the last few months and how quickly she’s becoming a little spunky toddler. If you’d like to see, here are 12 things I don’t want to forget about our Edie Jean at 20 months…

munchkin baby

1. How she talks. It seems like everyday she learns another word. Here’s a not very comprehensive list of her vocabulary: mama, dada, eh-wee (Henry), de de (Edie), woof woof (dog), cah (car), bah (ball), nana (banana), hisss (snake), da don (all done), mo (more), wa wa (water or milk), bubble, nana (binkie), uh oh, various animal sounds like a quack, tweet, growls, etc.

2. Her blonde, fine, curly hair.  Very similar to hair I had when I was her age. Fine and tangly already. I’m so so sorry to have passed down that fine, tangled mess but it’s extremely cute and I can’t stop touching it.

3. How she eats. Her favorite foods right now are: milk, strawberries, raspberries, olives, pretzels, grapes, ice cream, hamburger, rice, buttered noodles, cheerios, lemonade. She’s a very independent eater. She opens the fridge and pulls things out and then not so sweetly demands assistance in getting into her seat. You can only give her one thing at a time because she will only eat her favorite of the two and demand more, with no interest in the second item on her plate.  These toddler forks she just started using are prefect for her age. She was using these itty bitty baby spoons for way too long (errr until last week).  The miracle 360 cup is another new product we love. It’s sleek, spill proof, and you can sip it from anywhere! (see below). Also, how adorable are these apple plates??

4. How she kisses (or gives besos as well call them). Sometimes they’re tender and small and sometimes they’re big and slobbery. I’ll take the whole variety! It’s especially sweet to see her and Henry kiss. He definitely knows how to push her buttons and get her agitated but he’s also the most protective, loving brother.

5. How she runs. Running is generous here. It’s a very fast, very clumsy walk/jog leaning dangerously forward, especially if she’s excited or anxious to go somewhere.

6. How she plays. Dad is her favorite person to play with and all kinds of games are involved. This includes peek a boo, chase, and anything rough like pushing us or pulling or spinning. I have no idea where she learned this rough play (thank you, older brother!!)

7. Her shyness. She’s quite shy of new places and people. She turns her head and looks down immediately if someone tries to interact with her she doesn’t know (“Maybe if I turn my head they’ll disappear??”). She will ONLY be held by myself, Jared and our nanny. Unless you have puppies on your phone. Do you have puppies on your phone? She might make an exception for you then. She clings to me in a crowd of faces, and it often takes her at least 15 minutes to be comfortable to run around a new playground independent of my leg.

8. How much she loves books. She’s always piling them up on our laps or while we’re still trying to sleep in the morning.  She’ll climb up onto the bed and snag a spot in between us (she actually prefers to sit next to us than on a lap) and then whack us overhead with a book until we wake up. Charming!  Her favorite books right now are animal books, especially Henry’s animal magazines (Ranger Rick and National Geographic Kids). She loves pointing to the animals and trying to imitate the noises she thinks they make (anything that looks big she growls at).

9. She loves music. We took a baby music class for a couple of months and she would be pretty quiet in class but then dance and move and sometimes even try to sing when we’d listen to the songs in the car. That’s the best way to quiet her in the car is playing the cd from her music class. Works every time. Her favorite song right now it about a lady bug that crawls along your body and then spreads its wings to fly. She also loves making music and any musical instruments she can find.

10. How much she loves snuggling. Not just with us. She loves snuggling animals (dogs usually) and dolls and often has a small city of them in her bed at night.

11. How she can’t really ride this bike. Unless backwards counts. She can scoot backwards on it. And he loves pushing Henry on it. Going backwards, she (unpredictably!) often bumps into people’s toes and says ‘uh oh!’ with a concerned look on her face.

12. She’s never getting over dogs. Every day she begs to look at pictures of dogs on the phone or a dog book or a song about dogs in the car.  It’s only a matter of time before I think we’ll need to get one. I need to just accept that I think.

That white blonde hair does tend to be so tangly, doesn’t it?? My daughter’s hair was never quite that fine, but her curls used to get so tangled at that age. The things that help most (she’s about to turn 3):
-Regular trims. It’s harder to force yourself to do it with girls, especially when they’re first getting a good head of hair going, but the ends get dry and tangle so much more. Even a tiny trim helps (we go every 4 months or so and don’t cut that much off).
-Conditioner–we use California Baby; the conditioner can be rinsed or left in so I often leave a little in the ends or don’t rinse it all out. But the real key is the spray conditioner (and a comb-out) while her hair is still very damp. That lets her curls dry in lovely ringlets instead of a mess of tangles.

My little Ruby is 17 months and also obsessed with dogs! Every animal she sees says “woof woof” and her favorite skirt has puppies all over it from Carters (we just got some PJs she loves, too!). My dad just passed down his Beanie Baby dog collection (yes, he’s still holding out hope they will be worth millions!) and now she has about 15 new dogs to play with. Heaven.

I have twin nieces that have been obessed with dogs since they were your little ones age. My sister (their mom) managed to hold off until they were 6! You may have a little more time. Although their dog is their best friend and plaything. A very happy addition to the home!

What a sweet post about your little girl and great partnership with Munchkin, I love all their products too!

This was such a charming and sweet collection of Edie stories! (My sister is also named Edie, such a great name!) Wondering about a source for Edie’s bike? Thanks!

She’s right about dogs! I never realized, until now, what a blessing they are. I’ve become a “crazy boxer mom”. They are such a sweet, sensitive family dog.
Cheers,
Traci
