Holiday Break Photo Book Journal

Any holiday travel plans on the horizon? We went in on a ski house in Tahoe this season with some other families so we’ll be heading up to Tahoe a lot of weekends coming up and during the holiday break. It’s about a 4 hour drive so there will be lots of time spent in the car.  I’m working with Ford on another fun idea to get kids off devices and engage them in conversation and creativity during the holiday break and especially during long car rides. This is part of a series I’ve done on this topic, and you can see all the ideas right here.  Henry’s been really into taking photos and document events lately so this holiday break photo book journal project was inspired by that. It’s a fun way to document people and places during the holiday break and keep up on their writing. Keep reading to see how we made it…

This content was created in partnership with Ford to help make creativity a part of every drive this holiday season.

Step 1: Encourage your child to take photos of special events or people during the holiday break. You could also use your own photos as well, but for them to document something themselves feels a little more special.  I edited them to be black and white in photoshop and printed them to fit onto a page in this notebook.

Step 2: Glue the images onto one side of the notebook leaving the other side black for their notes and thoughts about that specific photo. Henry loved decorating this one of him and Grandma.

Step 3: In the car, the child can color the images if they want and add a comment about it, why it was something they want to remember about their holiday break. A great way to encourage reflection, creativity and writing in the car. I kind of want to make one for myself.

Any brilliant ideas to get kids off devices on long car rides? I’d love to hear your thoughts.

This is such a cute idea. And would be something perfect to show him 20 years down the line!
Do your kids get car sick at all? Any ideas for them?

Such a cute idea to save it! Car sick is tricky, more time looking out the window and less time looking down at screens or games helps with that but lots of breaks are good too!
