Europe Report: Switzerland

Finally uploaded photos from our Europe trip (I know, I’m a slacker), would you like to see some details from our adventure? Thought I’d do it in stages. Today I’ll talk about Switzerland, tomorrow paragliding, and next week I’ll talk about Paris and Normandy.

We stayed 4 nights in a mountain town near Interlaken called Lauterbrunnen. It’s snuggled right at the base of the Swiss Alps and a jumping off point for all sorts of adventures up in the mountains.

I was struck by how beautiful the Swiss made everything. In addition to flower pots filled to the brim with pink, red and white flowers in every window frame they had gorgeous flower beds filling each burial plot in their cemeteries. Flowers really do make everything more lovely.

Scattered on the alpine cliffs above Lauterbrunnen were dozens of little towns accessible by train and tram only. It’s amazing how they’ve sustained life up there!

My favorite part were the charming trains that took you up the steep twists and turns of the mountains to get between towns.

From any little mountain town you could start off on a really beautiful hikes or simply grab some Swiss fondue for lunch at a restaurant.

(or take a nap on the grass)

The views from the trains were incredible! We saw everyone from old retired couples to young adventures and families in this Interlaken area. There really was something for everyone with the easy transport of the trains.

We took one train that took us to the top of that peak above! To the right of that is the highest point in Europe, called the Jungfrau peak. From there we hiked (in the snow) over to a mountain hut and ate lunch.

The views were incredibly breathtaking! I was humming songs from Sound of Music all four days we were there, much to Jared’s delight.

One huge highlight was paragliding! Ahh! Stayed tuned for more on that tomorrow…

LOVE these photos! it brings me back two years ago when i visited lauterbrunnen. its seriously one of the most picturesque towns 🙂

There is a lovely campground in Lauterbrunen where we camped two years in a row while visiting Interlaken. I just KNEW that is where you were! The Swiss say when God made the earth and saw it was very good He kissed it and where he kissed it was Switzerland! (which kind of has the shape of lips). Loved your photos

My husband and I stopped in Lauterbrunnen on our honeymoon! It was so lovely and your post is making me nostalgic for it!

When I was there I did a Sound of Music tour, it was so awesome, the whole bus was singing all of the songs together. And I loved seeing the actual places in the movie. Everything in Switzerland and Austria are so perfect…did you eat any pretzel bread rolls?

Awesome….looks like heaven on earth… also beautifully explained, whatever noticed…great

Wow, I never thought I'd be so in love with a cemetery! I wonder if I could request that in my will lol.- Sarahhttp://agirlintransit.blogspot.com/

Don't you just love Switzerland?? My parents lived there for the last four years (now they've moved to Jordan, though). I loved going there for Xmas. So jealous that you got to paraglide, though! That's one thing I never did.

Absolutely gorgeous. It looks like you had a great time.

OMgosh that looks like an amazing trip! Great photos…IT looks as if the air is so fresh there..I wanna go too 🙂
