Camping in the Sierras

Had a perfect camping trip this weekend. Found a secluded little spot in the National Forest where you can pitch your tent anywhere, which is our favorite way to camp (we tend to avoid campgrounds).

The American River was roaring and we had a little tributary to ourselves. We set up camp around noon and spent the rest of the day collecting rocks and sticks, wadding in the stream, walking across fallen logs, napping in the sun, and tending the fire.

It was hot enough during the day to lure me dipping into the frigid waters of the stream next to our camp and cold enough in the morning that hot cocoa, sausage and pancakes cooked on the fire tasted like the best meal I’d ever eaten.

Exactly what a weekend should be.  I hope you enjoyed yours as well!
