DIY Personalized Magnetic Chalkboard

scotchblue magnetic chalkbaord

When we redesigned our workspace last year I really needed a place to visually see projects so that my assistant and I could plan accordingly. The problem was, there wasn’t a lot of wall space so we ended up creating something custom ourselves (which was so easy!). My sister in law Jordan had instructions on using sheet metal to make a custom magnetic board that we used to create the shape to fit the small space. It’s great because not only is it magnetic to hang inspirational trinkets, but you can also use dry erase markers on it and also write or decorate with chalk on the chalkboard sections. So much to do! I want to create another for the inside of our kitchen cabinets.

Supplies:

ScotchBlue™ Painter’s Tape for Multi-Surface with Advanced Edge-Lock™ Paint Line Protector 2093EL
Chalkboard spray paint
Foam Letters (check your local craft store)
Ruler

Instructions:

1. Measure out the sections you want to be chalkboard. You will be taping of everything but those sections. sayyesmagneticboard5

2. Add your foam letters. It took us a while to figure out exactly what we wanted it to say: the hardest part! A favorite quote? Inspirational line? It’s up to you! sayyesmagneticboard6

3. Spray paint outside or in a well ventilated area with chalkboard paint

4. When dry, peel off the ScotchBlue™ Painter’s Tape carefully.

I love this idea! I had no idea you could use dry erase markers on sheet metal. I bought large chalk board planks from home depot (under $10) and hung those for my blogging calendar—but your idea is far cuter! Thanks for the great idea:)
