Honeysuckle High Waisted Gathered Skirt

I’m not a great seamstress, but to trick myself into feeling confidant in my sewing ability I’ve concentrated my focus on one well defined niche: high waisted gathered skirts (exhibit  A, B, C) and here’s my latest, a longer honeysuckle version (of course).

Actually I’m pretty sure my skills peaked at the last one. So I might need to find to find a different niche. Perhaps neon booty shorts?

any chance you'll post a pattern or tutorial? πŸ™‚ i want to make one of these so much!

would love to have the pattern for this for bridesmaid dresses, any possible way you could send it my way? πŸ™‚

Did you use a pattern? I think it's adorable and would love to make one!

I love the skirt and also the top you're wearing with it. Can I ask where it's from?

That skirt is LOVELY! And you're oh so trendy with the honeysuckle color :)xo.www.prettyandfun.com

That is beyond gorgeous. And the color! I've been dreaming about the color.

It's darling and I loved the striped one too. Be confident, it's an easy transition to a dress–litterally just attach a "tank top" (2 pieces of fabric sewed at the shoulders) to one of those skirts and you've got it :)you could even follow the "colorblocking" trend

I love these skirts! I'm not great at working from a tutorial so I may have to start looking for a pattern.

Oh my gosh. I love your blog and I love this skirt!!!! You did such a great job! I LOVE sewing clothes and I think you did an excellent job!- Sarahhttp://agirlintransit.blogspot.com/

i love this! looks like the perfect fit to me.

That skirt is fabulous! And your blog is amazing, glad I found it!

That is gorgeous! Spencer's sitting here telling me I should learn to sew like that.

kendra, yes! we're making the same meal again this year. Yum!

I love the pale peach and high, high waist, so flattering and yet so cool…

How absolutely divine! Please tell me why you're not selling those suckers-I would love one in my closet!

I love how much it ruffles at the waist. That, with the higher waistband, is a perfect nod to mid-century! What kind of fabric did you use? I think I'll attempt one for myself! Thanks for the inspiration.Chelsea

amazing, I hope you don’t mind I shared your shirts in a post on my blog! I can’t sew at all, not one little bit, embroidery, yes, sewing machine no. But I’m going to start classes, so i can make this skirt, over and over again, it’s fantastic .

Thanks everyone!Janika- Yes, I cut it across the selvege so I would have enough fabric. I don't like it as much because I forgot how to sew the zipper high enough onto the waistband. It's been too long and I forgot that trick!

LOVE! I have got to bust out the sewing machine and get moving on some darling skirts for Spring!

Everything about this skirt is perfection, the coloring, the gathering, the length, the waist. I love it. It's a good niche.

I love all of your skirts. Especially this one but probably because its that light peach/pink color. I want to learn to sew but I am so afraid to pick up the needle.

This is a very cute skirt! I'm not sure why you said you don't like it quite as much as the others, but I'm guessing it may be because you cut it with the selvage going crosswise on the skirt instead of lengthwise. Cutting the skirt with the sides aligned lengthwise with the selvage will make it hang nicer and be less poufy at the waist. Cutting it on the bias would also make it hang well. This reminds me I should make some of these for my daughters. Goodluck!

I did the striped gathered skirt tutorial and love it! I get compliments all the time. This one will have to be next up…and such a cute color!

It turned out so cute Liz! The cut is really flattering on you and the color is perfection.

Liz that is perfection! The color is to die for and the length is perfect, it looks great! I would totally pay you the big bucks to make me one… since I have zero sewing abilities on my own πŸ™‚

love the skirt! I have been imagining knitting one but not sure how it would work out! LOVES.

LOVE the color. I just finished a high waisted skirt and am so very very proud of myself. As it turns out, as long as you can conquer a waistband you can do just about anything.KaylaFreckles in April | a modest fashion and lifestyle blog

it looks great and the color is perfect…I may need to try this style out myself

I swear you are inside my mind sometimes…everything I would love to make or do make ends up here πŸ™‚

this one is my fav of all of yours. great job. i love all things high waisted. so elegant.

I am so in love with this skirt. First time at your blog. Loving it! Thanks for sharing all of this goodness!

It's cute! I think the gather looks great!Playing It Cooley

I think it looks great. And I love the honeysuckle. I've learned a new color today…thank you! I have a deep fear of sewing, which I have to conquer because I have a 10-year-old who's desperate to sew some American Girl doll clothes.

i love the waistband and the sweet color. the length is perfect too. fantastic job!

I adore these skirts! I made two last summer, a bright grass green and a blk/wht stripe. I'm sure I'll make more this summer too :DShelleywww.westermanfam.blogspot.com

Oh very pretty!! I like the pale peach color!! =)Melanie's Randomness

DARLING! Although I love your second stripy one too. Maybe I'll finally break down and attempt one this summer since you make them look so darn cute.
