On Balance: Daily Goals

Thinking about the balance issue this weekend, I read over each and every one of your brilliant suggestions and decided to compile a list of different areas of my life that needed attention daily to help me feel balanced and grounded. These areas were: physical, creative, outdoors, cleaning/organization, spiritual, and educational (this could just be catching up on articles in The New Yorker, This American Life episodes while cleaning or reading a good book). After making my own personal list to review every day, it occurred to me that Henry needed most of these things too so I made a revised version for us both to review on his chalkboard and plan out our days accordingly.
I had read once that every child needed creative play and free outdoors play everyday. This is something I try to do anyway with him and then simply added a few more categories. So far he and I have both loved addressing our daily goals and it really helped me feel grounded and fulfilled at the end of the day.
Thank you all again for your thoughtful comments and the several sweet emails. You are all so inspiring, smart and supportive. When I grow up, I want to be just like you 😉

Love the idea of making yourself accountable for things like creative and outdoor time every day. Thanks for the inspiration!

fabulous thought! something I need to do and need to STICK to doing. I also think it's great you thought of and included your son 🙂

Great post – I have been enjoying blogging so much am stuck to computer all day but must get back to my Hip Hop dancing (yes! I know a frightening thought!) which I've done for 8 years – then suddenly stopped this year. Plus it's a true Oakland experience.

Just to echo everyone else's comments- this is a great idea and I'm going to try it too.

This is a beautiful idea in its simplicity. I like that your list not unreasonable or overly specific. I am officially inspired! Thanks
