DIY: Cloth Bread Bag

I’ve been making bread a lot these days with the weather being kind of rainy and cold. I always like to wrap fresh bread in cotton dish towels to keep it fresh during the day, so decided I should just make a bread bag out of two kitchen dish towels.

It’s super simple. Of course, you don’t have to stencil ‘bread’ onto your bag. I was just going through freezer paper stencil withdrawals. It’s been several weeks since my last hit.

this is great!! do you mind me asking what font you used to make the bread stencil? thanks! 🙂

I've just started making my own bread. And this bag is so cute! Thanks for sharing the idea 🙂

LOVE THIS. So useful, and really cute too. 🙂 I totally feel you on the freezer paper stencils! Hehe.

I love this idea! I make banana and pumpkin bread, along with cardamon bread, all the time, and I usually end up wrapping them up in a towel. But this would keep the counter looking much neater, and would be perfect for the larger loaves that are difficult to fold the towel around. Thanks!

Love it! I love wrapping homemade bread in fabric to give as gifts. I might need to make the bread bags instead. At home, I tend to wrap bread in plastic wrap AND foil. It seems not to make it soggy that way. At least the white bread I make. Also, if I use it mainly toasted, I keep it in the fridge – makes it last MUCH longer.I think I will need to switch to a bread bag. Thanks for the great idea!

that is a super cute bread cloth bag! unfortunately my cat will eat through anything to get to bread while we are away so we have to have a bread box 🙁

caroline, we have a great japanese dollar store here (actually it's a $1.50. darn economy). it has some amazing stuff. but i'm guessing a lot of dollar stores would have something similar?

Love this! And p.s. — recently became a daily reader here, and I look forward to it every day!

so cute! i have to do this!i've been making bread lately too, and the plastic does make it too moist.also, which dollar store did you find the dish towels at? they are darling!

My question is does the bread bag keep the bread fresh long-term, like until it's gone? I'm really trying to cut down on plastic bag usage around here but I worry that our bread will get stale!

ivyjeanne, just in the grocery store, next to the waxed/parchment type paper!

GREAT idea, Liz! One question though: where do you find "freezer paper"? Grocery store or craft store..?

Karissa, yeah, I've found plastic bags just made it soggy= moldy

This is fun. I make bread bags, but have never thought of stenciling them. Great idea.

I love baking bread but I hate using so many plastic bags to keep it fresh. This is perfect!

What a great idea! We make bread at our cabin I need to make one of these bags.
