The beaches here in San Francisco are stunning but don’t get visited as much since it’s rarely beach weather in this city. Earlier this week though it was crazy warm! It happens so rarely that when it does, everything stops and people flock to their favorite beach leaving their unfinished work, messy houses, and to do lists behind. I thought it would be the perfect opportunity to take our little Edie Jean to visit our favorite spot for her first time: China beach.

China beach is one of our favorite beaches, even when it’s not warm. It’s only 5 minutes from our home and is kind of a secret. It’s rarely crowded and people often visit a much more popular and advertised beach next door, Baker. Although I have no idea why, China beach is much more beautiful! It has these amazing view of the Golden Gate Bridge in the background, gorgeous rocks to climb on, and the waves are always small and easy to play in. That is, if you’re brave enough to handle the chilly water. This day it was so warm, Henry was practically swimming in it!

Henry always makes a beeline through for the waves, but Edie and I were content here on the blanket for a bit. Well, okay. I was content. She was what can only be described as mildly annoyed.

It was warm, and despite our efforts, the sun was probably in her eyes a lot- so those maybe were contributing factors. We were joking that the waves sounded just like her noise maker at home (was she annoyed because she thought we were trying to put her to sleep?).

Then we were reminded of something funny. When Henry was the same age, I had a season pass to a waterpark in Salt Lake with some friends (oh the life!). We were there all the time, and despite providing him with every pool luxury (baby floatie, hat, sunglasses, rash guard, binkie), he still complained most of the time. Not crying or anything, just mildly annoyed. Not really enjoying himself. No smiles or giggles or baby cuteness happening. This was how Edie acted and it cracked us up remembering how Henry was just the same at her age.

Either way I’m not concerned because if Edie if anything like Henry, we’ll be over the moon and she’ll love the water in no time!

After a bit, we stopped for a snack of some watermelon and strawberries and Henry warmed up on the towel.

PS How do you handle sandy hands + food at the beach? I always feel like a crazy mom about it (no kids reaching in for food ever!), but just one sandy hand can ruin it all!

I uploaded some favorite shots from the beach Jared took to Adobe Revel, you can see the whole album here. I can send a link to family and friends that they can view easily from their computer or phone. The images are automatically synced to my phone so I can view and share them anywhere, anytime. And the pictures are laid out automatically so nicely in this grid. So pretty to look through, don’t you think?

BABY POWDER! We live in San Diego, ten minutes from the beach, and I always always always have a few travel size containers in my car. My mom would use it on us as kids and so it’s funny to me that it’s this new, “undiscovered” thing now. ๐Ÿ˜‰ But seriously, it works great. Just make sure the sand is dry – it will just cake up on wet, sandy feet.

I’m so glad to hear there is some one else in this world who feels just like me!!!! No way do I let sandy hands touch any food. I agree just one sandy hand, can ruin it all!! Wait, who am I kidding, even one sandy finger can ruin it all!!!!! My sisters and husband tease me about it all the time! ๐Ÿ™‚ Oh well!
By the way I too love China Beach! It’s beautiful and peaceful!

Beautiful family and a beautiful beach bag. Where is it from? I have been looking for one in anticipation of summer days at the pool. I hear the talc in baby powder helps sand brush right off of the skin!

I’ve heard that about baby powder too, I should try it. I always end up getting baby powder and not really knowing what to use it for. The bag is from Sole Society, I’ll edit the post to link to it ๐Ÿ™‚
