Jared and I aren’t the best about taking time to go on dates. I know a lot of people have designed date nights but our schedules seem to never allow for that kind of consistency. When we do it always seems it’s rushed and last minute and we end up at a mediocre sushi restaurant two blocks from our house. Plus, it seems like the best and coolest things to do in the city are always impossible to get reservations at. And don’t even get me started about the cost of babysitters in a city!

So for our first date, we started with something kind of nontraditional, only because we both had always wanted to do it…
We had a closet edit date with Dana from Share Some Style. She helped us go through our closet, which we both had been wanting to do for forever! She helped us decide what we needed, how to put pieces together that we loved, and what things weren’t working. It’s always hard I’d always wanted to do something like this and both Jared and I found it super helpful (Henry was kind of bouncing off the wall as you can tell above!)
My baby bump has kind of exploded lately and I really loved having her in my closet. She gave me advice about how to dress it, what maternity pieces I was missing in my wardrobe, and working around mediocre maternity fashion (ugg). She had great advice about the classic maternity baby doll dress which I’m not a huge fan of, saying it was better to create your own waist with an elastic skirt, belt and t-shirt (like I did in the image above) than purchasing a dress that already had one. So smart! I felt like I went away from it with a good sense of how to dress for my body right now.
Jared loved it too- he’s been in the processing of completely revamping his wardrobe and she gave him a lot of great advice on what pieces he needed still. Turns out he tends to shy away from any color (greys are always safe, right?), and he needed to get a few more shirts now that he’s found a brand and style he loves since mens clothing tends to stay more consistent in a store than womens.
Jared is a bit outdoorsy (okay kind of an understatement there) and had just come back from a trip to climb Mt Shasta that morning (see the piles of his gear in the background of the image below?). I kind of laughed when, as he started pulling some of his shirts from the gear bags she gently advised him to avoid mixing his outdoors stuff with his work wardrobe.

First of all, how fun to have someone come over and give some fresh perspective. Second, it’s a great date idea. My husband and I enjoy a good shopping date, but a closet date would be wonderful too. We recently had our closets reorganized and dare I say, it had the same effect as getting a dishwasher in our old apartment… saved our marriage 😉
