DIY: Cardigan Refashioned

Yesterday I refashioned this cardigan with a couple layers of ruffles on one side and hidden snaps to close.
I started with this cardigan. I didn’t really wear it. I didn’t like the buttons and there were a couple stains around the buttons as well. I cut the buttons off and pinned the button hole side back.Sewed a couple tube strips of heavy weight cotton and silk.
I ruffled them (instructions here) and sewed them on top of each other with the silk one underneath, sticking out a bit.I pinned and then sewed the double ruffle onto the inside of the cardigan that used to have the button holes.
Added those hidden snaps and done! I love the contrast of the two fabrics but the thick cotton stuff was such a pain to work with. In fact it broke my crappy sewing machine’s motor. BROKE. I was going to do double ruffles on both sides like this j.crew one, but while I was working on the second side, the machine broke. So I thought for a minute and then came up with this alternative. I have to say, I think this was a better idea to begin with.
