I received the most adorable and delicious edible gift – a Superfood Popcorn kit. A friend packaged organic corn kernels and a a shaker full of homemade superfood topping into a pretty white bowl.  This would be the perfect gift for a new neighbor, favorite school teacher, or hostess.

The superfood shake mixture is made from spirulina (rich in protein, vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants), nutritional yeast (a good source of vitamin B12), and salt. Such a fun and yummy way to get some goodness in your body.

3/4 cup nutritional yeast
1/4 cup spirulina
2 tablespoons sea salt
3 tablespoons canola oil or coconut oil
3/4 cup organic popcorn kernels

To make the mix simple whisk the nutritional yeast, spirulina, and salt together in a bowl then carefully pour into shaker.

When ready to pop a batch of corn, heat oil in a large pot with lid over medium/high heat. Pour in corn kernels, cover, and shake every few minutes. Once the kernels start to pop shake every minute until the popping slows down. You’ll know the corn is ready when the popping noise stops.

Pour hot popcorn into a big bowl and liberally shake on superfood mix. Toss well and let it come to room temperature as I’ve found that is when it tastes best.

Nutritional yeast would taste amazing on popcorn. I can’t believe I haven’t tried it yet

That is a very cute idea. If you put that all into a brown paper bag you can put it in the microwave and have homemade microwave popcorn
