DIY: Lyrics Poster

Saw this huge poster on sfgirlbythebay’s flickr set and thought it would be a fun diy project with a tween/teenager using a line from their favorite movie/song. Here’s a very similar tutorial here at Lil Blue Boo.
Kids that age get really obsessed with that stuff, right? I think my first music obsession was boyz II men. Actually, I know it was because I choreographed a full length ballet to ‘End of the road’. It was very dramatic. Then came Counting Crows and Indigo Girls. I scribbled their lyrics on notebooks and binders and tacked up their songs on my bulletin boards (my college roommate can attest this did not stop at high school). Did you have early music obsessions?

so obsessed with that room!thanks for posting it! love the diy idea!j.www.iartu.blogspot.com

Boyz II Men was my first music obsession too! And then came Celine Dion (don't judge).

I would have loved his is high school as my room was plastered with Led Zeppelin posters anyway. What a great idea.

Jenwood, thanks for the tip! I'll be sure to check out her diy

This was actually done by the lovely blogger of here's lookin at me kid. I'm on my phone so can't send the exact link but visit her blog and you'll find full instructions! Her home was recently featured on Apartment Therapy, too.

I love that giant poster! I am like….where could i put it!

this is a really great idea! i was totally obsessed with the Backstreet Boys and then it was all P!nk. haha =]http://postcardsfromdreamland.blogspot.com/

this is the coolest! I'm not a tween or teen, but I might just do this for myself!

Oh yes! The year was 1987. I was 6 and my sister was 16. We shared a room so I was all about the music she listened to. Which meant I was way into Tiffany, Cyndi Lauper, Bon Jovi, and of course, Michael Jackson. I even had a grey glove I pretended was all sparkly. Good times…

I think my first music crush was Morrissey. Amazing how many dance moves coordinate with "Hairdresser on Fire"….. I love this idea of a giant lyrics poster!

He he totally laughing picturing you choreographing a ballet to an r&b song!

My earliest memories are of Tiffany and NKOTB but then I turned to No Doubt and Savage Garden.

my first choreography experience was in 4th grade. for the talent show (which i won – just saying) for the 4th and 5th graders. the song was "elevator man" by oingo boingo. i think i was a little ahead of my time…

Should I have grown out of the phase of getting obsessed with lyrics? I liked the lyrics idea for ME 🙂 32 🙂

I might like a smaller version of this in my room….maybe with the lyrics of our wedding song on it? Ours was "Satisfy My Soul" by Bob Marley. (We eloped to Jamiaca…which is a loooong story). Anyway I might use the lines: "when we bend around the corner, you make me feel like a sweepstakes winner."And yes, not only did I choreograph the dances, I did them in public in my driveway, complete with legwarmers and miniskirt…to Flashdance (What a Feeling).

I won't admit how many dances I choreographed with friends back in the day, but there were A LOT.I can totally remember highlights from TLC's Waterfalls and Paula's Cold-Hearted Snake… As I remember, it was mostly acting out the lyrics with lots of running man and roger rabbit moves thrown in for good measure.I miss the 90's.

Counting Crows and Indigo Girls were also my favs in high school and college. I had the biggest crush on Adam Duritz!

Oh man. You are definitely not the only one who had music obsessions as a teenager. For me, in elementary school there was the Spice Girls and the Backstreet Boys. Later on it was U2, Coldplay, and The Cure.Love the idea!
