My friend and neighbor Michele was recounting some highlights from her wedding in Sweden last year and mentioned the best gift she was given…

It was a little tree to plant in their yard! When she and her husband got married they were already living together with their 8 year old daughter and didn’t need too much in terms of setting up a home, which is where the traditional idea of gifts for a bride and groom came from. A tree was a perfect gift for them. Thoughtful, beautiful and universally loved (and even more reasons here). I love the symbolic message of it as well. Just like a tree, a relationship requires love and patience and nurturing to grown into something strong and beautiful.
Isn’t that a brilliant idea? You could pick one up at your local nursery for under $100 and wrap a bow around it. What do you think? Would you gift someone a tree? Would you want to receive one?

My cousin got married a few years ago and the couple had previously been living together, so it was a similar situation. My parents gifted them a potted orange tree that they could plant in their yard. It was a great gift!
I would totally gift, and would love to receive a tree. Especially some sort of fruit tree!
I would also love to pin this image to save under my “gift guide” board, but I can never really do that from your blog. Is there a reason why you don’t like to add a pin to your posts? There are so many I’d like to save! 🙂
This is such a cute and unique idea! Honestly, I would do this if we had enough space in our tiny flats in Hong Kong. 🙂
