Remember the $4 rocker portraits I made earlier this year? I’ve been itching to work on another portrait project with the kids. This time I took some headshots and put together a collage of expressions for each child…
Similar to the kid rocker portraits, I pulled down the white backdrop (but you could totally use a white board or white wall as well) and each kid took a turn showing me their best expressions.
I asked them things like, “show me a scared face, a mean face, an excited face, a surprised face, etc”. For Henry and Edie I could get pretty specific, but for Dot I had to be pretty general like ‘happy, sad, angry, etc”. She was trickier to get a wide range of expressions but I still love how they all turned out. In general, the wider the variety the better. Being a naturally emotional 4 yr old, I think Edie was the best at giving me a wide range of expressions.
Good to know, thanks!
This is such a fun idea! I love it!
I love how easily the portraits can be made on photoshop! They look so professional too!
These are so special and stunning. I was wondering what camera you and your team use? I have an entry model Canon DSLR that I use a decent 50mm lens on. 95% of my pictures are portraits of my children, or my attempt at them. I’m wondering about a purchasing a 35mm lens (I gather I’ll be able to get closer to my subject with a 35mm lens). I was just what you might recommend for amateur photographers on a budget. It might be an idea for a post. Thank you for the always natural, beautiful photos you present and your awareness that some things don’t need to cost a lot. I hope you;re having a lovely summer. Lauren.
These are really special and stunning. I was wondering what kind of camera you use. I have a basic Canon DSLR with a decent Canon 50mm lens on it. I mainly take portraits of my children. I’m considering investing in a 35mm lens so that I can shoot at slightly more close range (I have a small house). Do you or anyone on your team use a 35mm lens? Is it redundant when I already have a 50 mm lens? Any advice for amateur photographers with a small budget to spend on a camera and/or lens? Maybe it might be an idea for a post. Your photographs of children are always natural and wonderful. Enjoy your summer!
Thanks! I also have a canon with a 50mm lens. Works great, but you do have to back up at least 3 feet or so to get that profile shot. Maybe grab a big white board and find a room where you have more space next to a window? I’m never a stranger to moving furniture around! It takes just a minute to move back!
I’m consistently pleased by the print quality from Socisl Print Studio. Check them out.
Good to know, thanks!
