Summer is here! I’ve been looking for some tunes to keep the summer vibes alive in the early evening – you know that time of day when the kids get home from camp tired and cranky and there’s dinner prep to do?
A Dinner Playlist
I wanted a playlist to put us all in a good mood and provide that dose of magic that makes everything a little more fun and easy. Because doesn’t music just make everything better? We can be having a pretty mundane day and then I decide to put some tunes on. Suddenly the kids are getting along and the world seems a little wider. I feel more creative and more inspired – like there are infinite possibilities. I start to operate on a different wavelength.
Add a half a glass of rosé to the equation and the summer vibes really take over. I’ve got a sashay in my step, I get the urge to eat outside on the patio, and my husband starts to look pretty damn good. And the food somehow tastes better too.
These feelings are actually all backed up by research. The Johns Hopkins School of Education discovered that music “stabilizes mental, physical and emotional rhythms to attain a state of deep concentration and focus,” and recommends music as a way to find peace and calm and put us in a more creative state.
I put this playlist together drawing from the beachy lo-fi sounds my friends currently have on rotation. Hopefully it will be the soundtrack to your sunny evenings and ease the hectic-ness of your pre-dinner hustle. (Just don’t forget the half glass of rosé.)

Funny reading a list of music you don’t know and realising it’s really hard to tell which is song name, which is band name!
We have a housework play list when we’re trying to energise the kids. We listen to They Might Be Giants kids albums like Here Come The Abc’s. Lots of fun, cheerful, energy to counteract the whining!!
