My friend shared this super easy plant trick perfect for neglectful plant owners (guilty as charged)…
When you’re first potting or transferring a plant, put a coffee filter at the bottom between the walls of the pot and the dirt (cut it down to shape for a smaller one).
It allows only the water to drain, and not the dirt to clog the draining holes which could lead to rot and kill your plant. A more effective drainage solution than those rocks many people use.
Coffee filters also retain moisture really well so if you’re not the most responsible waterer (meeee), your plant can stay happy for longer.
Also, it makes transferring a plant even easier.
I’m so curious to try next time I’m planting or re-potting! Have you tried?

I use coffee filter on the bottom, then some rocks then another filter then the dirt and the plant
woah, you’re a pro!
This is such an awesome tip! Totally trying this!

If you have trouble remembering to water your plants, you can also line a small tray/dish with rocks and fill the dish with water and place your plant pot on topof the rocks. Just make sure that the water is below the tops of the rocks, or else you run the risk of root rot. This trick can be really helpful if you’re leaving tropical plants at home for a week or so unattended, too.
I usually use rocks, people say this method might work even better!
Gotta share this with my Dad – he’s always looking for garden and planting inspiration! 😀
