With fuller brows being all the rage right now, we’re left scrambling to figure out how to give ours the update they need. There are so many techniques and products out there, so I asked a few brow-educated friends to share a few favorites…
TECHNIQUES
Microblading
It’s a new tattoo technique that fills in brows out and reshapes them by drawing on lots of tiny tattoo lines that look like individual hairs. The cost is about $300-$500 and requires two visits. My friend Julia swears by it, so I asked her tell us what it was like, here’s what she said:
“First the esthetician tested shades on my forehead and we chose the one we thought was best. Then she numbed my brows with a clear ointment and saran wrap. After wiping it off, we drew on the brow shape with pencil and perfected it. Once I approved, she started. The first few passes weren’t too horrible – similar to a Brazilian wax where you grit through the slight pain and occasionally have a leg nerve spasm. The second pass the cream has numbed more and you just feel the scraping. The esthetician did say some people bleed. That there’s a fine line between too much blood and the right amount of blood for this process (yikes!). When it was done, we looked in the mirror together and tweaked a few spots. No blood that I could see, but my brows were tender for a few days. I was given ointment to help them heal and was sent on my way!”
“I thought it looked fantastic! After the few rounds of healing – dark to light to super light and back to medium, I decided to go a little bolder and thicker for the second appointment. There is always a second time! The first time she drew hairs on my brows a little above my natural line and I wanted it to hit the bottom to create a stronger arch. She suggested a powder finish behind the lines for more definition and I liked that idea, since I was powdering and drawing in my brows prior.
Again a few rounds of describing and tweaking from table to mirror, I was left with brows slightly too dark but otherwise fantastic. That’s what you want though because ultimately it does fade and you’ll wish you had done it darker.
It’s been about a month since my second pass and I wake up daily and do NOTHING with my brows – it’s amazing! They look totally natural. I scoured her IG feed because I wanted natural brows for my face and not a template look. Not everyone looks good with super thick brows or square or round. So definitely do your research!” – Julia (pictured above)
FAVORITE PRODUCTS
Anastasia’s brow products (I hear dark brown is the fav color)
On a daily basis, I’ll do a little bit of shaping and filling in with Anastasia’s brow pencil.
-Erica
I use the Anastasia powder to fill in my holes and then every so often I get them tinted so they are darker which I like! . My eyebrows actually have a small cowlick – and so the front grows straight up which starts to look extra crazy sometimes if I don’t trim it for too long -Amanda (that’s her in the first image from her instagram)
Tweezerman
It’s general consensus that Tweezerman makes the very best tweezers. “I don’t always pluck my brows (b/c they are so sparse), but if I do, I use a Tweezerman too.” – Erica
A couple tips.
If you’re stressed about your brows not being perfectly the same remember, they’re sisters, not twins (love that thought).
Also “My hairstylist suggested to try switching the side of your hair part to show your “best face” (better eye brow)!” -Etienne
Lastly, Mens Mustache Dye?!?!
Erica swears by this, “I’ve been tinting my brows like this for a year and it really is the best”. Essentially you just use a regular box of $10 mens mustache dye from the drug store to get your brows to a darker tint. It fades in about a week and a half tops and that box will last you 7 or 8 applications. More info about it here on Glamour.
So curious to try the mens mustache dye! What’s your best eyebrow tip/technique/product?
Ive been dying my brows with men’s mustache dye for DECADES!! It totally works!
oh amazing! good to hear, i really want to try it
I love threading but have found if I get my brows threaded once a year, I can maintain the shape pretty well on my own by plucking the new hairs that grow in about once a week. It takes about a minute per week of plucking the newly grown in hairs and saves so much money!

Good tip!
I actually haven’t tried microblading or threading. I used to wax, and now I go to a middle-aged Chinese auntie who plucks my brows at superspeed, haha! 😛
